The more trips and missions are entered on Medical Mission Exchange, the better that patients can be served! All team leaders should travel to the service country with a printout of all medical missions serving within a year of their visit. That way they are prepared to arrange for referrals to specialists and follup care. A simple email to spread the word can go a long way! Please feel free to customize the following message:

Subject: Don't forget your Medical Mission Exchange Mission Contact List!

Before you go on your trip, download a custom contact list at Medical Mission Exchange (www.mmex.org) to help with patient referrals and arranging for follow up care. (It's free.)

Medical Mission Exchange is a non-profit organization that provides a free, online database of short- and long-term medical missions serving the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Belize. By sharing information among one another, medical missions can capitalize on each other's strengths and ultimately help link more under-served patients with desperately needed health providers.

While you're at the site, be sure to help other medical missions in their work by adding your trip information. Just go to www.mmex.org and click on "Add a Mission."

Remember--the ultimate beneficiaries of the information you access and share at Medical Mission Exchange are the patients themselves!

WRITE ABOUT MMEX ON BLOGS AND MESSAGE BOARDS

This is one of the best ways to get the word out to all of your friends and supporters. Here's an examples of what other organizations have written:

Short:

Imagine you are a general practitioner traveling to a small town in the Dominican Republic with a medical mission team. What do you say to the patient who needs a neurologist or a plastic surgeon? You may not know where to turn, because you know little about other medical mission teams serving the area. This is the reason Medical Mission Exchange (MMEX) was founded: to connect the people doing the important work of medical missions so that more people can be helped in the best way possible.

By providing a free, online database of short- and long-term medical missions serving the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Belize, MMEX gives medical mission organizations a way to share information among one another so they can capitalize on each other's strengths, and better serve their patients. Going on a medical mission trip? Step one: Download a Medical Mission Contact List and Schedule before you go to help with patient referrals and arranging for follow up care. Step two: Help underserved patients find appropriate medical specialists in Central America and the Caribbean. Add your medical mission trip to www.mmex.org

Long:

Imagine you are a general practitioner traveling to a small town in the Dominican Republic with a medical mission team. Once there, you meet patients with a variety of problems. Some of the illnesses you can treat, but others are outside your area of expertise. What do you say to the patient who needs a neurologist or a plastic surgeon? You may not know where to turn, because you know little about other medical mission teams serving the area. Unfortunately, this is a common problem.

Now imagine you can access a database that lists medical mission teams planning trips to the town you are visiting, or nearby towns. What if you could look for specialists, and find a neurologist planning a trip in a month? And what if the database included contact information for the neurologist and the mission group organizing the trip? This information might make it possible for you to make an appointment for your patient with the appropriate specialist, rather than having to turn someone away without treatment.

The site is "self-serve." MMEX welcomes continued input from the many dedicated groups and individuals who serve the poor in these developing countries. MMEX is dependent on medical mission organizations to keep their entries current, and therefore useful. Help underserved patients find appropriate medical specialists in Central America and the Caribbean. Add your medical mission trip at www.mmex.org
