About Us

Medical Mission Exchange(MMEX) is a free, online database of short- and long-term medical missions serving the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Belize. MMEX gives medical mission organizations a way to share information among one another so they can capitalize on each other's strengths, and better serve their patients.

To participate, just go to the home page and click on "Add your trip here." If you prefer, you can admin [at] mmex [dot] org (subject: Here%20is%20our%20Trip%20Information) (email your trip information) to us. MMEX, a non-profit organization, is dependent on medical mission organizations to keep their entries current, and therefore useful. The information you share could help other medical missions in their work helping patients in need. We hope the information other organizations have already provided will help your organization in its mission serving patients.

Why MMEX?

Imagine you are a general practitioner traveling to a small town in the Dominican Republic with a medical mission team. Once there, you meet patients with a variety of problems. Some of the illnesses you can treat, but others are outside your area of expertise. What do you say to the patient who needs a neurologist or a plastic surgeon? You may not know where to turn, because you know little about other medical mission teams serving the area. Unfortunately, this is a common problem.

Now imagine you can access a database that lists medical mission teams planning trips to the town you are visiting, or nearby towns. What if you could look for specialists, and find a neurologist planning a trip in a month? And what if the database included contact information for the neurologist and the mission group organizing the trip? This information might make it possible for you to make an appointment for your patient with the appropriate specialist, rather than having to turn someone away without treatment. This is the reason Medical Mission Exchange (MMEX) was founded: to connect the people doing the important work of medical missions so that more people can be helped in the best way possible.
