This document (the “Privacy Policy”) describes the policy followed by Medical Mission Exchange, a public benefit corporation registered in Vermont, which is the Operator (“we” or “us”) of this Website (the “Website”), in relation to the collection, use, security, and disclosure of personal information and other information that we collect during your use of the Website. As used in this Privacy Policy, “personal information” means information that would allow someone to identify you individually, such as, for example, your name, address, telephone number, or email address. By accessing this Website, you are accepting the practices of the Operator as described in this Privacy Policy.

We occasionally update this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy and to note the effective date at the bottom of the policy, in order to stay informed about how we are protecting your personal information. Your continued use of the Website constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Policy and any updates.

The Website may include links to other websites. We do not control the activities or policies of websites that are referred to or linked to from this Website. You should consult the respective privacy policies and terms of use for any third-party websites that you visit.

Personal Information That We Collect
To achieve the purposes of the Website (as described in the Terms that govern your use of the Website), we collect certain personal information, including information about your professional activities, your place of work, and other details that will allow you to interact productively with other visitors to the Website.

We collect your personal information when you register as a participant in the Website’s services and when you submit a listing to the Website. Listings may include your offer to volunteer your professional medical services, requests for assistance from other medical professionals, descriptions of your experiences in providing volunteer medical services, or similar types of information.

This Website does not provide medical or diagnostic information and does not collect any personal health information. Accordingly, we are not subject to the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Information that we collect as part of the registration process and/or as part of accepting a listing from you may include the following:

  • Your name and address
  • Your contact information, including an email address and telephone number
  • A description of your professional experience, including the nature and length of your surgical experience
  • Regions of the world where you would prefer to volunteer your services
  • Your language skills
  • Whether you have prior international medical experience
  • The name, email address, and telephone number of a contact person at the facility where you are requesting that others provide volunteer services
  • A profile describing that facility and its needs
  • Whether the facility or the volunteer services being requested are limited by cultural or religious restrictions, or by language requirements for participants

If you choose to donate money to the Medical Mission Exchange through a link on the Website, your donation will be processed through a third party that will collect your payment information and remit your donation to us. We do not see or have access to your credit card information.

How We Use and Disclose Personal Information

The information that you provide through the Website is used to facilitate exchanges of volunteer services as described on the Website. This requires that your information be made available to other registered users of the Website. Depending on the type of listing you submit, however, you may have the option of choosing not to have your email and telephone number made available to other registered users.

Other users of the Website may use your information to contact you regarding volunteer service that you have indicated an interest in, or to ask for further information about your prior experiences in an area of common interest.

We may contact you with information or requests related to potential or past volunteer service.

You always have the option of contacting us to request that your information be removed from the Website. We may retain a copy of your information in our archive but, at your request, we will remove it from the publicly accessible areas of the Website and will not contact you further regarding the volunteer services related to the Website. We cannot control the actions of others who have obtained your information from the Website before you asked us to remove it.

We reserve the right to review and remove any personal information from the Website at any time, without notice.

Although your personal information is available to other registered users of the Website, the Terms of use for the Website do not permit anyone to use your information for commercial purposes or to gather or resell your information in any way. Please contact us if you learn of any violation of these terms.

We will not disclose, resell, or otherwise use your personal information for commercial purposes (such as spam, mailings, marketing activities, etc.), or knowingly permit others to do so. We also will not use your information for non-commercial purposes (such as fundraising efforts) except where those non-commercial purposes are directly related to the stated purposes of this Website.

Although we do not believe that we are subject to the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we nevertheless will never knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Our Terms of use specifically prohibit anyone from providing any personal information about persons under 13 years of age.
